Putting “Christ” back in Christmas Presence
A friend of mine recently posted a photo of “Consumer Jesus”, a brilliant graffiti masterpiece from the one and only Banksy. Painted back in 2004, I cannot believe I have never seen it before; it illuminates the swell of insanity and insatiable consumerism that has become the norm for the western world from late September through early January.
How did we get here? How on Earth did this happen?
There are over 4000 religions on our planet of which there are up to 30,000 branches of Christianity alone. The issue is not just about Christianity but most ALL organised religions that preach and program (intentionally and/or unintentionally): division, exclusivity and cult like recruitment and behaviour. Our world is full of monotheistic and anthropomorphic religions featuring angry, jealous deities that take sides, seek revenge and are capable of “hate”.
“…God, not the crude anthropomorphism which is still the backbone of our current theology, but the symbolic conception of that which is Life and Motion of the Universe, to know which in physical order is to know time past, present, and to come, in the existence of successions of phenomena; to know which, in the moral, is to know what has been, is, and will be, within human consciousness.”
~ “The Secret Doctrine”
In an ever-expanding universe, of literally billions upon billions of stars and planets, solar systems and black holes amidst incalculable other universes; how on our little planet EARTH of 7.5 billion people… can ANYy of us officially speak on behalf of the creator, the Absolute?
For any human to affirm that “God hates this or that… (insert anything here). I ask you in earnest, HOW can YOU speak on behalf of the great unknown?
To literally put Christ back in Christmas and Christianity would be wonderful.
“The coming of Christ,” means the presence of CHRISTOS in a regenerated world, and not at all the actual coming in body of “Christ” Jesus; this Christ is to be sought neither in the wilderness nor “in the inner chambers,” nor in the sanctuary of any temple or church built by man; for Christ — the true esoteric SAVIOR — is no man, but the DIVINE PRINCIPLE in every human being…
He who strives to resurrect the Spirit crucified in him by his own terrestrial passions, and buried deep in the “sepulchre” of his sinful flesh; he who has the strength to roll back the stone of matter from the door of his own inner sanctuary, he has the risen Christ in him. The “Son of Man” is no child of the … flesh, but verily of the … — Spirit, the child of man’s own deeds, and the fruit of his own spiritual labour.”
“The belief and teachings of Christianity are not all supported by the words of Jesus, but his doctrines are at all times in accord with Theosophy.”
~ William Q Judge
Through the ages countless sages and masters of wisdom have come to teach us NOT to look outside of ourselves because that which we seek is within us. It always has been and is closer to us than our own breath.
It is written in “The Secret Doctrine”:
“The Universe is the periodical manifestation of the unknown Absolute essence, and that it is worked and guided from within outwards.”
Theosophy’s motto is:
There is no religion higher than TRUTH
“The mere fact that a man appreciates these truths and feels these aspirations is proof that he is on the right road.”
This year, let us enjoy a bounty of CHRISTmas Presence.
“Peace to all beings. Blessings on all that lives.”
