The Secret Doctrine
“Man is divine; matter is living; all nature is one”
“The Secret Doctrine”, published in 1888 and written down by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, comes through in two staggering volumes: “Cosmogenesis” and “Anthropogenesis” (The Evolution of the Universe and The Origin of Man.). It is my belief and understanding that HPB was both a receiver and transmitter and that these monumental texts on cosmic, planetary, and human evolution, as well as science, religion, and mythology were not HPB’s creation but rather were recorded by her. They have been called the “Textbook of the 20th Century”, they have also been misunderstood, misjudged, and misinterpreted; but in their pure, original form they are invaluable to mankind.
No one can have a monopoly on the Divine and that includes the Theosophical teachings. One of the main objectives of Theosophy states: “To form a nucleus of the Universal Brotherhood of Humanity, without distinction of race, creed, sex, caste or colour.” It is important to note that this does not read: “The Universal Brotherhood of Theosophists.” Nucleus translates to Heart and there is no hierarchy in Heart. We must always remember to always keep humility in our Humanity.
It is disheartening to see some Theosophical groups seeming more bothered about out-“Theosophising” one another than the humble self application of the teachings themselves, instead it seems common and unfortunate form of cerebral mental and spiritual masturbation.
For this site, channel and online presence, I chose the name “Yogi Theosophy”, because to me that translates as “student of Theosophy”. Here, I respectfully share my journey, studies and experiences from the personal application of different texts and teachings. I am not a teacher, I am a student and I have found that genuine learning can take place through the personal application of the Theosophical teachings in our daily lives, through processing our actions and reactions, through dedicated study and through our personal understandings and failures. I am grateful to hear from and learn from others like you who also share this Path.
These studies have improved my life in such a substantial and remarkable way, that I feel to NOT share my experiences with others would be completely irresponsible. I do not believe this learning can take place over a single lifetime, nor can it exist on solely one one level, it isn’t about who you know or what you know, It is what you do.
“Theosophy is as Theosophy does” and “Theosophist is as Theosophy does”; Theosophy is not what you think; not what you feel; not what you study… but WHAT YOU DO and who you are.
Where is your moral compass? Where is your purity of heart? What is your primary cause, is your cause for study self-glorification or for self gain… or is your cause for study of Theosophy for the betterment of humanity? I feel something that I believe you feel as well… I don’t mind working to help “plant these trees” that I will never taste the fruit from and I don’t care that I won’t feel the shade from those trees. I DO KNOW that Theosophy and texts like “The Secret Doctrine” are crucially important to be aware of, especially now. But it is also important to remember that Theosophical knowledge cannot be taught or bought, you cannot pay to learn it from someone or to have them do it for you, but you can earn it, and you can learn it.
“First Deserve, then Desire.”
After the passing of H.P.B., those trusted to be the keepers of the Theosophical wisdoms succumbed to the darker side of human nature and… blinded by their own light and mesmerised by their own self importance, actually appointed themselves, “Mahatmas”. They also got to work grooming a new “Christ” figure/world teacher; you know him as the philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti. He eventually stepped out of this absurd charade and disassociated himself from the Theosophical Society.
You will recognise shades of the ancient wisdoms in all of the world’s religions. But none of the religions contain all of the Wisdom. Theosophy does not belong solely to the Theosophist either, the teachings date back to and through time immemorial and there have been many who have analysed and studied the combination of philosophy, science and religion: Plato and Aristotle, Socrates and Paracelsus… and the world’s sages and Avatars.
This massive influx of information that came through in the 19th century: Transcendentalism, Christian Science, Swedenborgianism, Spiritualism, the Mesmerism of Phineas Quimby and Theosophy gave birth to the “New Thought Movement” which later paved the way for the 20th century’s “New Age Movement”, the same one that continues to thrive in the digital age of the 21st century. This “New Age/Metaphysical Movement” IS actually random facts, buffet table type pickings and choosings of the ancient Theosophical wisdoms. They exist refreshingly outside of the tired and traditional dogmas of the organised religions but they too are often manipulated then regurgitated to suit one’s own needs, make one appear as a Goddess, or Guru, Mahatma or Sacred Sadhu… etc. However, because of the original source, there is some truth and goodness in “The New Age Movement”, but sadly where there are humans, there exists depravity and selfishness.
I believe that you are not here to simply learn for academic gain nor for notoriety. We are taught that “The Secret Doctrine” and other Theosophical texts will stay closed to you and cannot be accessed unless you carry true altruism, compassion and unselfishness in your heart. And you will most definitely know it if you have it.
“Man is divine; matter is living; all nature is one. Having established this proposition, The Secret Doctrine proceeds to show the true compartmenting of the phases and aspects of the One Life, viz., Microcosm and Macrocosm, Spirit and Matter, normal and abnormal. The world of the within and that of the without; the reflecting of the above in the below; the shadowing of spirit-substance as material forms — these are explained, not as a speculative theory of cold philosophy, but as the doctrine of the practical science of life”
